Meet Michael Robertson: DorSuite's Project Management Mastermind!

The project managers at DorSuite are the invisible orchestra conductors of our organisation. They lead the complex dance of design, manufacturing, and project delivery, nsuring every performance door is crafted to the highest quality and keeps our customers satisfied.

Today, we meet Michael Robertson, a recent addition to our talented team. Let's delve into Michael's career journey, his thoughts on teamwork and customer relations, and what drew him to the DorSuite team!

Welcome aboard, Michael! We're thrilled to have you join DorSuite. Can you tell us a little about your career journey and what sparked your passion for project management?

My journey started on the workshop floor as a wood machinist apprentice. It was a great experience, but after a while, I craved a broader perspective. I moved into the office, creating cutting lists and getting involved with design through CAD software. That's when I discovered a passion for seeing projects through from start to finish, not just individual pieces. Several night classes and an HNC in construction management later, I transitioned to the contracts and project management side. It perfectly combined my technical knowledge with planning and, most importantly, teamwork.

At DorSuite, happy customers are what keep our doors swinging (pun intended!). How do you see the importance of customer relations weaving into the success of a project?

Clients aren't just buying door suites; they're expecting a full-service experience. Keeping them informed throughout the process builds trust and ensures they're happy with the end result. It's about clear communication, managing expectations, and going the extra mile to address any concerns.

They say a team that laughs together, lasts together. What's your secret recipe for cooking up a close-knit, high-performing team?

There's no magic formula, but honesty is key. Open communication builds trust and lets everyone tackle challenges head-on. Teamwork is the foundation, of course – everyone needs to feel valued and supported! And a dash of understanding goes a long way. Recognising different work styles and personalities helps create a team that truly gels.

So, Michael, with all the project management options out there, why DorSuite? What drew you to our team?

The close-knit family atmosphere here really resonated with me. In a larger company, projects can feel impersonal. At DorSuite, there's a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. Everyone's invested in each other's success, and that kind of environment breeds great work.

We know managing projects can sometimes feel like juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle. How do you hit the 'pause' button and recharge? Any quirky hobbies or hidden talents that help you maintain that work-life harmony?

(Laughs) Well, flaming torches might be a bit much, but there are definitely high-pressure moments! For me, the best way to unwind is spending quality time with my family. We love exploring Scotland together. Sometimes, we just pick a random beach on Google Maps, hop in the car, and let the dog loose for a good walk. There's something incredibly calming about fresh air, wide-open spaces, and zero deadlines!

Every great team has its unique dynamic. Is there a dream team – real or fictional – that you'd love to manage? What about their teamwork makes you want to shout, "Now that's what I'm talking about!"

(Grins) The Celtic Football Club's 2002/2003 team that made it to the UEFA Cup final! (Maybe a bit controversial for the West Coast of Scotland!) They embodied everything I admire in a team – incredible talent, unwavering work ethic, and an unshakeable bond on and off the pitch. They defied the odds and achieved something truly special together. Now that's a team I'd be honoured to manage!

We're excited to see what the future holds for Michael at DorSuite! Stay tuned for more interviews with our amazing team members.
